Journal Jar: Prompt 24

I am sorry that I have not posted in a while. August was not a good month for me. I had a lot of ups and downs, but things are better now, and I am back to posting. So here is prompt number 24:

Write about a rocket-ship on it's way to the moon or a distant galaxy far, far, away.

Update

Hello, all. I apologize for being so behind on posting prompts. I will pick them back up on Monday. There has been a lot going on here. I was bit by a spider and while the bite is healing it is still pretty painful and icky. I've finally found childcare for my youngest as I return to graduate school and am hoping to have my oldest all registered for preschool in the coming weeks.

Happy writing. :)

Journal Jar: Day 23: Prompt 23

Today's prompt does not come from the jar, but from a quote I saw posted on Facebook from Game of Thrones. Take the quote and respond to it, what does it mean to you? Write a poem, a journal entry, or a story. Happy writing. :)

Journal Jar: Day 22: Prompts 19, 20, 21, and 22

Hello, all! As per usual I have fallen behind. Doing better to get you your daily prompts is one of the top things I am working on. I will be starting graduate school in a month and since I was a late apply and a late admit I have little time to get everything put in order and ready to go. This is not an excuse, of course, I should still be able to make time to write a short blog post with a prompt each day, and yet I have not. I feel like part of it is because my life is so un-organized at the moment. I am working on this. I am re-arranging things to create a better and more organized work space. I feel like once this is done and I have daily access to this area a regular routine will simply fall into place as it normally does for me. Okay, enough rambling, here are the four prompts that I owe you.

Prompt 19: What always brings tears to your eyes? (as Paulo Coelho has said, "Tears are words that need to be written.")

Prompt 20: What rituals do you have or hold?

Prompt 21: The protagonist is obsessed with serial killers and decides to make a documentary film reenacting their most horrific crimes.

Prompt 22: If you could only take 3 people with you on a trip around the world, who would you take and why?

Happy writing, everyone!

Journal Jar: Day Eighteen: Prompt Eighteen

Good evening. I am posting this prompt in the middle of the night, but at least it is not three days behind. :) I hope everyone enjoyed the day. Happy writing.

Prompt: Make a list of 30 things that make you smile.

Journal Jar: Day Seventeen: Prompts Fifteen, Sixteen, and Seventeen

Wow! I really have gotten behind on the prompts the past few days. I'm sorry guys. Things have been crazy here for me trying to find daycare for my children and get all of my ducks in a row for graduate school which is starting in little more than a month. I am going to make up for it though and post all of the back prompts that I owe you. I am aware that I owe you a nice video as well giving you bits and pieces of what I have been working on. That is to come. :)

Here are the prompts:

Prompt 15: As passengers disembark from a transatlantic flight, they start to experience amnesia -- all of the passengers except one. The farther they go from the plane, the more severe their amnesia becomes. Will they risk forgetting everything?

Prompt 16: Outside the Window: What's the weather outside your window doing right now? If that's not inspiring, what's the weather like somewhere you wish you could be?

Prompt 17: The two moments I'll never forget in my life are...Describe them in great detail, and what makes them so unforgettable.

I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend. I am hoping to take a break from all of this work and take my kiddies swimming.

Happy writing!!!

Journal Jar: Day Fourteen: Prompts Thirteen and Fourteen

Hello. I am sorry that I did not post yesterday. We were on the road all day and then I received my official admittance letter to graduate school which prompted some quick work on my part. I am going to post both prompts thirteen and fourteen for you today.

Prompt Thirteen: Home from the airport after a long trip, you realize you have the wrong suitcase. What you find inside, however, leads you to believe the bag's real owner might be a witch with a mean streak.

Prompt Fourteen: Two husband and wife chemists quit their high paying jobs on a quest to develop the Sorcerer's Stone.

Happy Writing. :)

Journal Jar: Day Twelve: Prompt Twelve and a Brief Life Update (BONUS!!!)

Good morning my fellow writers! The sun is shining here and is is miserable hot. :) Despite the heat my spirits are up. I am in the middle of completing my application for graduate school to begin the TESOL program in the fall. I am asking everyone to send me out good vibes and wish me luck! :) Even though it has been a crazy busy morning jam packed full of tasks I wanted to make sure to pause and post our daily prompt. Even when life gets hectic we always want to make sure me make time for writing, and creativity adds a special kind of beauty to life I feel. So here we go....and the winner is....

I wish I could see....Because....

That is a pretty open ended prompt. Take it and run.

I hope you are having a beautiful day and if you are where it is warm either enjoying the sun or staying in from the heat.

Happy writing everyone.

Writing Zone

One thing that I find difficult at times is finding a writing zone that works for me. I have two children, one is four and the other is six months, and a significant other so it is difficult sometimes to find a moment to myself. I work every other week and then the weeks I do not work I am home with the children and trying to catch up on housework from the week before. So, how do I get in my writing zone? Well, generally I find that I fall asleep when the kids do at night so I do not get a lot of nighttime writing accomplished. What I generally do is get up and hour to two hours early every morning, go into my office (which is a walk-in closet I turned in to one) close the door, turn Pandora on to The Piano Guys station, and write. Generally I have a cup of coffee and a glass of water. That's my time. Uninterrupted, quiet, and productive. What gets you in the writing zone? Happy writing everyone.

Journal Jar: Day Eleven: Prompts Ten and Eleven

Greatings, all. I missed yesterday's posting due to attending a writing conference. I had a great day, learned a lot, and met a lot of really great people. So since we missed yesterday's prompt I am providing them both today. I hope everyone is having a fruitful writing experience.

Prompt Eleven: What kind of a pet would you most like to have - monkey, snake, goat - why?

Prompt Twelve: Write a poem that begins with the last thing you can remember someone saying to you today or yesterday. See if you can use that line two or three times.

Happy writing!

Journal Jar: Day Nine: Prompt Nine

Good afternoon! Today has been a busy day for me so the prompt is coming a bit late. Today you get a choice. Choose one of the two prompts below to respond to. OR if you are feeling extra productive write about both!

1. What do your emotions sound, look and feel like?

2. Write a descriptive poem about (or a scene including) a banana split: three scoops of ice cream with banana halves on either side and a big mound of whipped cream on top laced with chocolate sauce and sprinkled with chopped nuts -- all topped off with a plump red cherry.

Happy writing everyone!

Journal Jar: Day Six: Prompt Six

Good afternoon, everyone! I am away from my home computer today and will be for the rest of the week so I will not be able to post the daily video blogs. Today's journal jar prompt is: "review a section from the Police Beat or Classified Ads of a local newspaper. Choose one and tell the story behind it." This sounds like a fun exercise and I am really looking forward to writing. Enjoy the day and happy writing everyone!

Journal Jar: Day Five: Prompt Five

Day Two: Prompt Two Response

Hello, all! Today's prompt was: if you were lost in the woods and it got dark, what would you do? My response to this prompt was not as immediate as it was to the prompt yesterday. I, again, chose to write a poem. I wrote a satirical poem about a woman lost in the woods and her inability to know what to do because society has not allowed her to learn this skills needed to survive. She is not a man, therefore, why would she ever need to know how to start a fire or hike or camp or scout for food? I had a lot of fun writing this piece. I start off with a funny little bit about being a heroin in a romance novel and perhaps I should just sit and wait forlorn on this rock and an over-masculinized man will come find me and not only rescue me but ravage me because he knows that that is what I have been waiting for. I do not normally write humor pieces so this was a little different for me. I had a lot of fun. I hope you enjoyed the prompt as well. I will have another one for you in the morning. I hope everyone is having a fun and safe holiday weekend. Happy writing everyone. :)

Response to Prompt One

Blog Updates

I have finally added some of my work to the poetry section (only work that has been previously published) and I have updated the publications section. A few of the publications can be found online. I did not publish all of the poems on the blog that I have had published, however, due to personal reasons I will only put work up that has been published. Happy Writing. :)

Journal Jar: Day One: Prompt One

Welcome to day one of the journal jar prompts. In this video you will find an introduction to the journal jar as well as a brief list of some of the websites that I gathered some of the prompts from. You will also find the very first journal jar prompt. I feel like we all do our best to write everyday during National Poetry Month, but sometimes our busy lives get in the way of our writing and we put our writing aside for other things. We feel like we do not have time to write when, in truth, there is always time to write. Of course, these prompts are just a fun way to get us started, and extra writing is encouraged. The idea is to spend fifteen to thirty minutes a day on these prompts. Take them and run with them. You do not have to follow them exactly. Hopefully they will inspire you to write more. Happy writing.

Content Pending

I am having some technical difficulties getting the first video to upload. I am working on it now and hope to have it up soon. Here is a picture of the jar while you wait.

Daily Writing

Hello all. Tomorrow I will begin posting a daily writing prompt. I am in the process of creating a prompt jar from which a I will select a random prompt each morning and then post it here either in picture or video format. I have gathered these prompts from a variety of internet sources and they include basic journal prompts, poetry prompts, fiction prompts, etc. The idea is to write for fifteen to thirty minutes a day. Take the prompt and run with it. It is not necessary to follow it precisely, but to use it to get you writin. Before the posting of the next prompt the following day I will share something of what I have come up with as a result of the prompt (if not the entire writing sample). If you would like to do the same in the comments you may. Happy Writing. :)

Feeling Accomplished

I am proud to announce that I have put together my first chapbook. I am still in the long process of editing. I have been working on this project off and on for about three years now so I am feeling pretty excited. I am not sure I will even do anything with. I just enjoy the feeling of semi-completion. After the final round of edits I will be able to put this body of work to the side and actually be able to say that I have finished something whole.

What is poetry?

There are many definitions of poetry from the concrete dictionary definition to the definitions we as writers give. I would define poetry as a way of painting emotions and concepts with words. How would you define poetry?

National Poetry Month

Welcome to National Poetry Month! I am a day late on my introduction post (we had a family birthday yesterday) but I am super excited it is finally here! I hope everyone is filling their days with poetry. I am participating in the poem a day challenge. I have written a poem of negation so far and am about to begin the second poem of the month. Best wishes.

Work Ethic

I have been working a lot lately. I have written several pieces, however, I have strayed away from poetry and am writing more non-fiction. I am working on several submission pieces. I am most attached to the piece I am working on for GreenPrints (a magazine about gardening). The piece is about my Great Uncle, his love for gardening, and the impact this had on me as a child.

I am also in the beginning steps of what I hope will be a fruitful Freelance writing career. This is something I have never tried before so I am not fully aware of what to expect. I am excited to begin this adventure and I hope this will help my work to grow.

I will be posting pieces on here from time to time. I am hoping to expand this blog so that it might be more substance and less of a hit and miss hobby. On a similar subject, check the poems section from time to time. I will be posting poems that have been previously published there.

I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend.

I'm Back

It has been a while since I have posted anything. I am going to try to post on here everyday from now on. 2014 was a busy year for me, even if I did not fully keep up with my blog. I moved, gained a stepdaughter, had a new baby, and my son started preschool. I wrote but I did not submit.

Right now I am reading some back issues of literary magazines and writing at least a page a day in my journal. I am going to be updating the other pages of my blog soon.
